My Journey

I have been contemplating how to start blogging my journey.  Thus procrastinating this first post…knowing that I need to rip the band-aid off!  As the wise, all knowing Jen Sincero says “Procrastination is one of the most popular forms of self-sabotage because it’s really easy”.

Self- Saboteur….just does not roll off the tongue.  That is not who I want to be…ever…again.  I am strong and confident…and dammit I have goals to fulfill, a life to live, places to see, others to help and memories to make!

So, here we go!  My Story…

I started having health issues when I was about 19/20 years old after my first large 9lb baby boy.  I was diagnosed with a digestive disease and taking care of myself was not my priority.  Two more bouncing baby boys later and I was suddenly 30 years old.  I gained a lot of weight with each pregnancy which only made my health problems worse.  I treated “eating for two “ as a very literal statement 🤣

As my youngest baby became a toddler and my oldest a teenager, I realized how my unhealthy habits were affecting what habits they were creating.  A friend posted on Facebook about doing Couch To 5K and how amazing she felt completing her first race.  So I started trying to eat healthier and walk on the treadmill.  I made some progress but was inspired to do more when saw an infomercial for a program called T25.  “It’s only 25 minutes”…I can do that!  And that was the beginning of my BeachBody journey.

I would love to show you my before and after photo’s from my first program – T25. But all I have is the after photos…no “official” before photos. In fact I have a hard time finding pictures of just me at all prior to starting my health journey.

And here is the hard truth that I can easily see now…I did not want to see pictures of myself and how I looked because how I felt on the inside was so much worse. Tired, defeated, achy joints…go for a run? Um no…I couldn’t even walk up a flight of stairs without dying.

I did not think it would matter to have that before picture because in the back of my mind I knew I would not finish the program. Had I ever finished anything? I would start a diet and quit in two weeks. I would start walking on the trails and give up in a month. I would buy dvd after dvd of at home workouts but never would do them more than once. I had three young kids, a full time job, a house to clean…no time to run into town to go to the gym.

But this time was different…I had found my “Why?”.

I was determined to change the direction my future was headed.
I want to live a long, healthy active life with my family. I want to be a good role model for my kids and teach them what good choices are. I do not want them to end up with medical issues like I have.

So I started my first program and I pushed play.
When I first started, I could not do a burpee. They hurt my knees. I modified pretty much everything. I had 0 abs to do any of the core moves. I struggled….the whole time. I cried…I was mad. Mad at how I had chosen food over happiness, laziness over self love, and the easy way instead of making a healthy, active home for my kids.

I did not give up. Everyday, (EVERY = did not miss a single day)…I kept pushing play.

I did not have an awesome support group when I first started (although I found one mid way thru). That group and this program sparked a love of all things health and fitness which eventually led to becoming a health coach and starting my own support groups.
Along my way, I have found the self-confidence to encourage others to become a better, healthier person everyday.

I have big plans to retire and travel the world with my hubby, making memories and visiting grandkids. I want to be in good physical shape to enjoy those trips and time.
The last 4+ years have been the healthiest of my life…a few hiccups here and there but I can’t imagine how horrible I would feel if I had not started making improvements. It is definitely a never ending journey!  I have no intentions of stopping!

Now I am paying it forward every month by offering virtual bootcamps for others who are ready to start or continue to be motivated on their journey.  The bootcamps are a small group of motivating people doing the same workouts from the comfort of their homes, daily accountability, meal plans for healthy habits and all the support from me…your coach 😁
